Tax return deadlines: what you need to know this year

Published · 5 min read · NS Accounting & Tax Office

The E1 income tax return opens each spring and normally closes during the summer. Filing early is not just about being organised: it is linked to discounts for lump-sum payment, to the number of available instalments and to avoiding penalties.

Before filing, check the pre-filled data on myAADE: salary certificates, deposit interest, dividends and property data. Errors in pre-filled fields carry over to the return and are harder to correct once it is finalised.

Pay particular attention to deemed living expenses and to covering expenditure with electronic transactions. Where a gap arises, we examine covering it through capital accumulated in previous years.

If you have rental income, the E2 schedule must agree with the electronic lease filings. Mismatches between E2, lease declarations and tenants' returns are among the most common audit triggers.

We schedule filings so that we never reach the final week, when the platform is overloaded and mistakes multiply.
